LG Display Opens Global Design Competition for Latest OLED Displays
2021-10-28SEOUL, Korea (Oct. 28, 2021) – LG Display, the world’s leading innovator of display technologies, today announced that it is once again teaming up with British top-tier design magazine Dezeen to launch the second round of the OLED Go! global design competition. Through this competition, the company expects to uncover new and innovative designs showcasing OLED technology in unique, practical ways to enable people to enjoy the benefits of OLED in their daily lives, thereby strengthening its leading market position.
Under the theme, ‘OLED displays that provide new experiences and enhance people’s changing lives,’ LG Display is seeking innovative entries that cleverly demonstrate the creativity and potential of its OLED and Transparent OLED displays – ranging from 20 to 50 inches – when it comes to enriching people’s everyday lives. Participants can submit their entries starting from Oct. 27 to Dec. 20 UK time at Dezeen’s official website of https://www.dezeen.com/oledsgo-competition-entry-form. The competition is free to enter for anyone over the age of 18 in any country around the world, with a top prize of 35,000 euros and total prize money of 88,000 euros. Entrants are free to design any product for any user or demographic around the world.
LG Display will mark every entry based on its carefully designed criteria – which cover aspects such as innovation, design aesthetics, practicality and lifestyle-enhancing functionality – before choosing a shortlist which is to be published on Dezeen in February 2022, announcing the finalists in March 2022 and the winners in May 2022. The company will review the winning designs according to their commercial feasibility and market potential before being considered for a new project that could potentially put them into the market.
Last year’s OLEDs Go! global design competition, the first round of its kind, marked an overwhelming success, receiving a strong flow of fresh and unique ideas from a total of 220 design experts across 50 countries. Among the hundreds of creative and inspiring designs, the top 5 entries evaluated to have best depicted a bright future with OLED were announced.
Through the OLEDs Go! competition, LG Display aims to discover fresh ways to utilize OLED, a technology able to realize paper-thin, transparent designs and design flexibility including curved and rollable, as well as provide exceptional eye-comfortable and environmental benefits. Unlike LCD technology which requires backlight units, OLED utilizes self-emissive pixels to allow thinner and lighter designs, as well as transparent designs. Additionally, thanks to the superior technology of OLED, futuristic form factors such as bendable, foldable and rollable are now possible.
“With the power of unparalleled scalability and an expanding list of form factors of OLED technology, LG Display continues to lead the market by pushing OLED into the mainstream,” said Dr. Oh Chang-ho, Executive Vice President & Head of the TV Business Unit at LG Display.
