LG Display's High-end IT LCD Panels Receive Eco-Friendly Certification

SEOUL, Korea (Oct. 11, 2023) – LG Display, the world’s leading innovator of display technologies, announced today that the company’s high-end IT LCD panels for monitors, laptops, and tablets are certified as eco-friendly from TÜV Rheinland and SGS.

LG Display’s high-end IT panels have received Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) certification from TÜV Rheinland, a leading global independent testing, inspection and certification body. This achievement marks a groundbreaking moment for the industry, as LG Display’s innovative panels have become the first displays to receive this certification.

TÜV Rheinland evaluated carbon emissions generated from the production to the disposal of LG Display’s high-end IT LCD panels in accordance with the International Standard for Carbon Emission Measurement (ISO 14067). Thanks to the company’s innovative applications of recycled materials and improved panel transmittance, carbon emissions were reduced by up to 29% in comparison to the previous panels.

In addition, SGS, a Swiss-based global leader in inspection, verification, testing, and certification, has granted LG Display’s high-end IT LCD panels the Eco Mark, given to products that adhere to global environmental regulations, and the Performance Mark, awarded to eco-friendly products with excellent performance and quality.

The company’s SGS-certified IT LCD panels excelled in terms of resource efficiency and energy efficiency, achieving a remarkable increase of up to 22% in the utilization rate of recycled materials. Also, they have significantly reduced power consumption by up to 35% through the implementation of proprietary algorithms and the use of high-efficiency components.

With an eco-friendly certification, LG Display further strengthens its unrivaled position in the high-end LCD panel market, adding to its list of distinguished LCD technologies such as IPS and in-TOUCH.

Meanwhile, LG Display introduced its ‘Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)’ system in 2021 to comprehensively evaluate every environmental impact created during a product’s life cycle. Through this new initiative, the company successfully reduced its total use of materials and parts and minimized greenhouse gas emissions and power consumption during manufacturing, while developing products with lower power consumption and reducing waste during the disposal stage.

“We aim to enhance the eco-friendliness and competitiveness of our high-end IT LCD panels by incorporating environmentally sustainable technologies and low power consumption technologies into LG Display’s unmatched technological expertise,” said Jeong-ki Park, Senior Vice President and Head of Medium Display Development Group at LG Display.
